It’s always special photographing a graduation session, but this one hit differently. There was something so inspiring about this young woman from the moment we met. Every single day, she traveled from Brooklyn to Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry to pursue her education and build the future she dreamed about. That kind of dedication says everything about a person before they even speak.
One of my favorite parts of any graduation session is exploring campus together and finding locations that feel personal and unique to the graduate. We spent the evening running around Mercy University, stopping at different buildings, pathways, and hidden little corners of campus while the light kept getting better and better. It honestly felt more like an adventure than a photoshoot. Her stole carried a beautiful Arabic phrase that translates to, “And it’s only the beginning of a bigger dream.” The second I read it, I knew it perfectly represented who she is. She carried herself with such poise, intelligence, and confidence all evening — and yes, she is absolutely stunning — but it was her quiet determination that stood out most to me.And then came the grand finale.
As the sun started setting, we decided to go for one last big shot on the iconic Mercy University wall. Getting her up there was definitely a team effort, and somehow we got lucky with a security officer who graciously chose to “look the other way” while we made the magic happen. 😂The result? One of my favorite graduation images ever. The sunset, the cap toss, the glow over campus — it all came together perfectly in a way that felt so symbolic of this huge milestone and everything ahead for her.
Sessions like this remind me why I love photography so much. It’s about so much more than photos. It’s about documenting hard work, sacrifice, personality, culture, family pride, and those once-in-a-lifetime moments that deserve to be celebrated.
This girl is going places. And I truly believe this is only the beginning of a much bigger dream for her. ✨
