We're right in the middle of busy fall family photo season, but I recently had the most fun switching things up with this adorable family of five in my Dobbs Ferry studio!
From the minute these three kids arrived, they made themselves right at home. Shoes came off, little feet were running around, and honestly, you would have thought they lived here. I LOVED it! There's something about siblings being together that makes everyone feel a little more comfortable, and these three wasted no time.
The youngest had just woken up from a nap, but in true baby of the family fashion, he took one look at what his older siblings were up to and decided he wasn't missing out on any of the fun!And this is exactly why I love my studio.
I designed it to be a space where kids can just be kids. No elaborate props, nothing to trip over, nothing to break, and no constant reminders to sit still or be careful. Just a beautiful, open white space where they can run around, laugh, play, and show off those big personalities.
Now, before you start picturing complete chaos, let me explain. It's controlled chaos! There's a method to my madness. While the kids are busy having the time of their lives, I'm watching the light, the composition, and all those little moments happening in between.
The result? Photos that feel spontaneous and full of personality but still have that clean, classic, polished look that I love so much.
I can already picture some of these printed BIG and hanging on the walls of their home. The white backgrounds, beautiful light, and simple styling make these the kind of portraits that will look just as good 20 years from now. And they will print beautifully!
Speaking of styling, can we give mom a little credit here? Not only did she manage to get three kids dressed and out the door looking adorable (which deserves some kind of medal), but she absolutely nailed the outfits. Nothing too matchy, nothing too stuffy. Just effortless, comfortable, and perfectly coordinated. And that blue dress on her daughter with those gorgeous blue eyes? Come on! Perfection.
This session was such a great reminder that family portraits don't have to be stiff or overly posed to be beautiful. Sometimes all you need is a simple space, a little freedom, and three kids who are more than happy to put on a show.
And the bonus of studio photography? No watching the weather forecast like it's your full-time job!
