As a mom of boys myself, I knew the minute this family showed up with three little boys that I was going to love this session. This was my wheelhouse. My superpower, if you will. 😂
And I wasn't wrong.
First of all, these boys were great listeners. Mom and Dad clearly ran a tight ship, and the boys knew it. But what I loved most was the flip side of that. When it was time to run, play, and get their ya-yas out, they were all in. And so were Mom and Dad.
There was running. Lots of running. A few tumbles. An occasional face plant from the baby. And every single time, I would instinctively flinch. It's been a while since mine were that little!
Meanwhile, both parents, practically in unison, would calmly say, "He's good."
And sure enough, he was.
At one point, the middle boy came running straight toward me, stumbled and hit his forehead right into my knee. I was convinced we were about to have tears. Instead, he touched his forehead, looked at me, and started laughing. I mean, come on. How great is that?
There is something so magical about three little brothers at these ages. The energy, the laughter, the way they bounce off each other (sometimes literally), and how quickly they recover and move on to the next adventure.
And I have to say, watching these parents was refreshing. They had this wonderful balance of being completely in charge while still letting their kids be kids. They weren't hovering over every little stumble or trying to control every second. They just let them go, knowing when to step in and when to let things play out.
Honestly, it restored a little of my faith in good old-fashioned parenting. Controlled chaos at its finest, and I loved every minute of it.
And can we talk about Mom for a second? She showed up looking effortlessly gorgeous in cargo pants, hardly any makeup, and somehow made wrangling three little boys look easy. Dad was right there too, keeping his watchful, slightly stoic eye on the whole operation.
You could just feel the love between all five of them. Nothing forced, nothing overdone. Just a really lovely family being themselves.
And as if all of that wasn't enough, we had the most beautiful fall afternoon. Glowing golden trees, old stone walls, cool little tunnels to explore, and plenty of room for three boys to run wild.
The location was the cherry on top. I shoot at Stone Barns a lot bc there are so many hidden spots and as a Westchester family photographer, I photograph all over but this place is really special.
These are the sessions I love most. A few beautiful family portraits, of course, but also all the little moments in between. The running, the laughing, the unexpected collisions, and the personalities that come out when everyone is simply allowed to be themselves.
Three little boys, two wonderful parents, and one very happy photographer.
This is my kind of session. ❤️
